Having a home that is appropriately adorned for the times of year is always a pleasant experience. A cozier and more friendlier atmosphere is the result. It might be challenging to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a Winter Wonderland.

To find out the best winter decorating tricks, real estate agents recommend these decorating ideas.

Use Evergreens to Add Life

It’s easy to bring the outside in with you by decorating with evergreens, holly, and pine cones. But then, what do you do with them? The limbs of leyland cypress, spruce trees (blue spruce is our favorite), and pine trees would all work well in the creation of a wreath or garland. Pine cones, holiday ribbon, or a narrow band of burlap would all work well as an accent for either.

Alternatively, you may purchase miniature evergreens in pots and adorn them with ribbon, lights, and holly berries for a splash of holiday brightness. Evergreens and their accessories can be used in a wide variety of decorative contexts. Pinterest is also a fantastic resource for inspiration.

Decorate with White Birch Logs

You may fake a fireplace even if you don’t have one by furnishing the room in similar fashion. White birch logs are easily gathered, tied with twine, and stored in a wicker basket. Alternately, you might place them in a planter, surround them with evergreen branches, and top it all off with a gold ribbon bow.

If you’re handy with power tools, you can make a log into a tea light centerpiece by drilling holes big enough to fit the candles.

Light Your Way with Lanterns

Do you agree that lanterns have a way of making even the coldest of places feel a bit more welcoming? If you use flameless LED candles, they’re safe enough to be used everywhere, including on the stairs! The three of us like taking lanterns of varying heights and arranging them artistically on the table for dinner. Fairy lights, LED pillar candles, evergreen trimmings, and more all work well within the lanterns.

Browse Second-Hand Shops for Unique Finds

Thrift stores have much more to offer than simply retro clothing and antiques. It’s the best location to find gently used decorations at a low price. It’s possible to get not just winter-themed seasonal decorations, but also other goods that may be utilized to spruce up your home for the season.

Imagine some logs in a red wagon or old milk jugs with a snowflake-decorated black and red gingham ribbon.

Create a Cozy Seating Area with Textiles

You can’t go wrong with a nice book, a hot cider, and a cozy blanket. But, even if you don’t actually want to snuggle under a blanket, fuzzy blankets, quilts, and afghans are wonderful ways to make a seating area more seasonable. Pillows and cushions are always a good choice, too.

When picking out pillows and cushions, it’s also important to use fabrics that are appropriate for the time of year. Among them are wool, linen, flannel, mohair, tartan, and crushed velvet.

Make Your Home Feel Welcoming with Winter Decor

Even while you might not be spending as much time as our northern friends do inside their homes wrapped up in blankets and sweaters, that does not mean that your home cannot be cozy and pleasant. Here are a few easy ideas to brighten up your home in preparation for the next winter season. Once you get started on decorating the space, it’s feasible that you’ll come up with an original approach that’s all your own.

Match Your Existing Decorating Style

Just because it’s in the store, it doesn’t mean it will match your home! There are so many beautiful Christmas decorating objects that you can decorate your home with, but you want to be careful that it won’t clash with your existing decorating. If you have bohemian style decorating at home, you want to try to choose holiday decor that will match this specific style. If your home is monochrome (black and white), you might want to make your tree like this too, with a pop of one color such as silver. Being cautious of how you decorate your home is one way to make sure it looks designer-ready when your guests come over!

Wrap Garland Around Your Windows

Fresh green garland isn’t only for wrapping around your staircase and mantel, you can even spruce up your windows with it too! Since garland can be super pricey in some places, its easy to make it at home yourself. All you need is some wire and twine to wrap and secure branches of pine tree around the wire. Then, attach some Christmas ornaments onto the garland for a customized, and unique look.

Make Easy Decorations Out of Paper

There are a ton of easy holiday inspired decorations that you can make with just paper! The living room above shows how you can use just metallic paper to create circular style decorations that scream “Christmas is here!” for only a few dollars. Cut out out a piece of wrapping paper and fold it up into a fan. secure the ends to create a circular decoration that’s easy, peasy, and most importantly, affordable.

Mini Christmas Trees

These mini trees are absolutely adorable and are a fun way to spread the holiday spirit throughout your home. You can purchase mini faux trees or even real small trees at your local Christmas tree stand and place them into decorative planters. Then, hang some ornaments on them and voila – you have yourself a cute and easy decoration that costs only a few dollars. There are also stores like Magnolia and Decorator’s Warehouse that sell mini trees and other decorative holiday objects that are affordable and super cute!

Go Big with Your Staircase Railing

Make the entrance of your home stand out and make a grand first impression to any family and friends that come over. This means, going big with your staircase railing and packing on that garland. Skip the thin store-bought plastic garland, create your own and home and pile it on to create a layered, rich look. You can also stack some fake presents along the stairs to really get your guests in the mood!

Glam, Classic or Vintage: What’s Your Holiday Decor Style? https://betterdecoratingbible.com/2017/11/29/glam-classic-vintage-whats-holiday-decor-style/ https://betterdecoratingbible.com/2017/11/29/glam-classic-vintage-whats-holiday-decor-style/#respond Wed, 29 Nov 2017 13:22:05 +0000 http://betterdecoratingbible.com/?p=13491 As you begin planning your holiday decor, it’s helpful to first identify your personal holiday aesthetic. Doing so helps to give your space a more guided vision so that the finished product is more polished and put-together than if you were to make one-off decisions on the fly.

Is your taste more traditional or extravagant? Perhaps you fall somewhere outside of the basic offerings, preferring quirky holiday looks that stir up nostalgia of years past. Read on to see which aesthetic best suits you.

Viva La Glam

More is more when it comes to decking your halls. There isn’t a surface in your home that is safe from garland and fairy lights. Between all of the twinkling light and festive scented candles, your entire home is aglow with a tone of lighting that is so flattering and relaxing, you wish it was socially acceptable to keep up this Christmas decor all year long.

You don’t believe that a Christmas tree can have too many lights or ornaments on it, and you like to lay them both on thick. Who really wants to see any of the greenery under those lights and ornaments anyway? When choosing ornaments, you prefer more flash than fa-la-la-la-la, so you tend to keep a strict silver, white and gold color palette, featuring lots of sparkle in the form of glitter accents and crystal ornaments. Take the shimmer and shine up a notch this year and add some rotating ornament hooks to give your tree even more dimension.

Keep It Classic

When it comes to holiday decor, you like your festive adornments just like your home decor, traditional and refined. You decorate in moderation, careful not to make it too over the top. You think colored lights are tacky, preferring the warm glow of white lights on your perfectly picked Christmas tree. You carefully decorate your tree with a mix of classic ball ornaments and your favorite ornaments that you have collected through the years.

As for the rest of the house, the holiday frills are kept to a minimum, save for a little light-strung garland on the stair banister and on the fireplace mantle. For your home exterior, things are kept crisp and tasteful with a simple wreath of greenery on the front door highlighted with a spotlight and white icicle lights along your roofline in all the right places.

Retro Chic

When anyone stops by your house during the holiday season, they expect to hear the soothing sound of Sinatra crooning “Jingle Bells.” And your holiday home decor, as with the rest of the decor in your mid-century modern home, goes right along with exactly what you would expect from someone with “Christmas with The Rat Pack” playing on a loop.

You scoured local thrift shops and estate sales to find the perfect vintage aluminum Christmas tree. You’ve been trolling flea markets for years to amass your near-complete collection of 1960s glass ornaments. Complete with bubble lights and old-school tinsel, your Christmas tree looks straight out of your favorite era.

Your holiday style may fall firmly into one of the above categories or you may blur the lines, choosing the bits and pieces from each holiday style that you love best. Either way, taking a step back to plan your holiday home look thoughtfully is key for creating a dazzling scene this holiday season.
