Next year is all about bringing back some of our favorite decorating trends from the 80s and 90s. Neutral tones, cozy vibes, and traditional furniture are just some things that will be making a comeback. Keep reading to find out how you can make your home on trend for 2021!

Traditional Furniture

Making a comeback are traditional pieces that never go out of style. Chesterfield sofas, vintage French arm chairs, overstuffed furniture, and softer curves. One thing you don’t have to be afraid of with this style of decorating is that it will absolutely never go out of style. Traditional pieces can always be mixed in no matter what trends come and go! And if you ever have to sell your furniture and want a new look, you will always find a buyer for traditional pieces! Scourge antique shops and marketplaces to get some of these sought after pieces at bargain prices and then reupholster them for a fun weekend DIY!

80s Themed Décor

The 80s had a very specific type of decorating style that can immediately make your home on trend for the New Year. Glass coffee tables with a marble base, metal gold bookshelves, tinted glass, black and gold color schemes and also mauves and dusty rose are some popular themes that are certainly making a comeback. Don’t be afraid to turn back the clock when it comes to décor, all of these trends are coming back stronger than ever!

Bring the Outdoors In!

We are seeing more and more people embrace a more natural look in their homes by introducing earthy tones and materials. Jute, leather, ceramic, lots of plants, and organic fibers give a natural and calming effect to any home. We are also obsessed with all of the beautiful carpet options that are coming back. Laying down a carpet throughout your whole bedroom is back in style and can make your room feel cozier and warmer especially in colder climates. Carpet fitting costs are also so much less expensive than they were back in the day. Sisal rugs, fur rugs, and also leather patchwork rugs make beautiful statement pieces and bring a cozy warm look to your home. Trends with come and go, but cowhide rugs for example is something that can be incorporated into any style and will continue to look glamorous and stylish.

Lighter Toned Wood is Back

We have stayed far away from lighter woods for so many years now, but it’s making a comeback stronger than ever. Gone are the days when you had to have deep dark wood flooring to make your home look impressive. Light woods that give off a rustic farmhouse feel are so in trend! Purchase pieces of furniture that lean on lighter-toned woods and stay away from anything dark or lacquered. If you currently have real wood pieces in your home you can always sand them down and repaint them for a whole new look for 2021!

What are some of your favorite decorating trends for 2021? We love the fact that old styles are coming back, which makes some of us feel like we are going back in time! Embrace the new trends and make sure to always have fun with your decorating. Until next time!

Marble, chevron, gold and anything that glitters are just some of our favorite decorating trends that are stirring up the design scene this year. We love all these ideas, and are constantly trying to find new and interesting ways to implement them into our decor. This doesn’t mean you have to change the whole style of your home’s decor to keep up with trends. Sprinkling in a little bit trending glamour into unexpected places we find, is what works best.

Marble and Brass

Believe it or not, but the marble trend is still going stronger than ever! Marble has always been a sign of luxury, opulence, and glam. It’s the perfect option for flooring, wall tiles, countertops, decorative accessories and so much more! We’ve seen so many DIY’s where you can easily beautify anything by using marble contact paper for a budget friendly way of being on trend. It’s always smart to take safety into consideration when doing any kind of DIY. We outlined more about that here!

What might be changing in regards to marble for 2017, is that designers are looking for complementary materials to go along with it. The warmth of gold brass, for example looks stunning when paired with the cool, cold colors of marble.

Pale and Pretty

If you are a fan of colorful decor, it may be the right time to tone it down a bit. Dove grey and off-white is a popular color palette this year that looks even more modern when paired with crystal chandeliers, fluffy carpets, and fur benches. Not to mention, lucite furniture legs are another huge trend that elevates a room to sophistication and elegance.

Dark Wood Flooring

When it comes to flooring, dark wood floors are a staple in designer decorated homes. We love them so much since they are so versatile with any type of decorating style and color palette. If you are looking to makeover your home, the best way to make a huge difference is to start with your flooring. Regarding hardwood floors there are also so many smart ways to dress them up using hide rugs, sisal carpets, and many more.

To bring light into a home that possesses dark hardwood floors throughout, choose light wall colors, cabinets, and neutral colored furniture. This European Oak Hardwood Flooring is actually from GoHaus and it complements this modern home beautifully. Not only is it super easy to install, its also very affordable.

Geometric Paintings

For an artfully tailored home, large geometric prints add an explosion of color and a modern spin to your home. Believe it or not, most of the expensive looking pieces of artwork you are seeing plastered over decor magazines and Pinterest are actually DIYs! It’s so easy to mimic the look of an expensive designer painting using a blank canvas, some paint, and gold leaf foil. Give it a try, you may be surprised with the results!

Introducing Natural Elements

It’s always nice to keep up with the latest decor trends, but that doesn’t always mean that they will be sleek and modern designs. This year, designers are loving the idea of mixing in natural fibers and materials such as whicker furniture, sisal grass rugs, sea shell chandeliers and more!

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”#fc3571″ class=”” size=””]BDB Tip: To get this look at home, you’ll need to firstly arrange a beautiful natural centerpiece somewhere in your home. Then, swap your synthetic rugs for something made of natural fibers such as sisal, wool, or cow hide. Next try to sneak in home decor items made from stone, raw wood, or seashells.[/perfectpullquote]

5 Outdated Home Decor Trends to Get Rid of in 2017 https://betterdecoratingbible.com/2017/06/26/5-outdated-home-decor-trends-get-rid-2017/ https://betterdecoratingbible.com/2017/06/26/5-outdated-home-decor-trends-get-rid-2017/#respond Mon, 26 Jun 2017 15:13:57 +0000 http://betterdecoratingbible.com/?p=12891 Make sure you’re not rocking outdated decorating trends at home by finding out which trends are out for 2017!

Home décor trends continue getting better each year, and with each new trend, the stale old items and themes get outdated. You don’t want the same floral accent in your house your grandma once had. Don’t get us wrong, but we’re trying to save you from posing an old impression. We have enlisted 5 home décor trends that made a splash in the 80s to early 2000s, but that is exactly where they belong now!

White Color Scheme for the Rooms

A flawless white interior looks untouched and bright at first, but it starts getting dull and boring with each passing day. It also looks uninviting and requires heavy maintenance, which is why it didn’t stay in fashion for long. You can swap the white interior with contemporary navy blue look to add warmth to your rooms. It also contrasts beautifully against light-colored textures. Fresh colors can lighten up your mood and circulate a refreshing vibe all around your house.

Traditional Kitchen

Say goodbye to traditional kitchens where granite and heavy marble countertops were the stars of the show. Now the trend is to employ lighter materials and tiles to elevate modern appeal. Moreover, lacquer cabinetry and dark wood counter height stools provide the aesthetics of a modern cooking space.

Ditch the cooking appliances that take all the space. Instead go for wall-embedded refrigerators, counter-fitted stoves and counter-embedded sinks to have a clear, open area for a better cooking experience. Modern cooking tools play an important role in upgrading your kitchen. Shop modern range of kitchen appliances from home equipment dealers like AJ Madison to secure the best rates.

Pointed and Oversized Furniture

Circular and geometric variations in furniture have returned in 2017, because boxed furniture have been throwing off the look of your living room for quite a long time. Shapes affect your mood in many ways, so it’s better to have different shapes around for a fun atmosphere rather than sticking to single boring cut. Same discouragement goes for oversized furniture. They not only make your space look crowded, but also appear clumsy. Stick to decent pieces of furniture that maintain the intricacy of your home.

Hanging Edison Bulbs

The interior is not the only part of your home, the outdoor space counts as well. We require lighting to illuminate our patio and most of us find Edison bulbs a convenient way to do it. Although conventional bulbs promote a retro feel, they are old-fashioned and need to be replaced. Modern day lighting solutions encourage the use of LED lights, fairy lights and solar lights not because they are energy-efficient, but due to the fact that they give an enchanting look to your patio. Modern patio decorating ideas also include the use of suspended paper lanterns, mini chandeliers and string lights.

Smooth Textures

Smooth and sleek textures convey ‘flat’ rather than ‘elegant’ look. You should incorporate chunky stitches, pleats, folds, fur and other cozy textures to enhance the comfort of your home. Home is more about what you feel when you’re inside, and a transition of different textures can ignite your senses while staying true to the modern age.
