Welcome to Christian Siriano’s colorful and energizing home nestled in Danbury Connecticut! This home is anything but boring, so grab a seat and take a tour of this home decorated by the designer himself.

From the outside of Christian’s home, you would never guess what is hiding inside. A gorgeous space full of artwork, antiques, beautiful prints, fabrics, and one-of-a-kind decorating. His home tour starts in this yellow seating area where he is known to spend weekends here greeting friends that come from out of town, New York City.

His 19th century colonial home that he shares with his husband is not his full-time home, Christian uses it as a getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. After he’s done dressing Michelle Obama, Victoria Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Taylor Swift (just to name a few of his glamorous clients), winding down in the secluded nature bound home really comes in handy.

If you’ve ever taken a look at Christian’s home collection in Bed Bath in Beyond, you will know that he has amazing style. A while back I purchased a leopard purse by Christian Siriano that was sold in Payless and boy was that the best bag I ever bought there! He has such an amazing sense of style, a good eye for color, and always manages to keep up with the latest trends.

His country home’s living room is so vibrant, fresh, and airy. I absolutely love the orange Hermes blanket, I have the black one at home and it makes such a wonderful statement piece.

Another thing that is really trending is hand-painted wall murals. It doubles as artwork so there is no need to hang up any photos or painting. Christian had this mural hand painted by pal and artist, Anna Hafner.

How beautiful is his pool area? Plus with all the fun pool floaties, who wouldn’t want to be invited to one of his parties!

Even his drinks are glamorous, being held in a custom hand-made tray.

His two dogs know how to soak in the sun’s rays and truly live a up-beat designer lifestyle. If I get a chance I will be featuring his next home tour showcasing his creative New York City apartment! Stay tuned…

Let’s warm things up a bit with a surprise home tour feature of this massive Italian inspired villa on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Talk about a dream home and a lifelong vacation – this beautiful estate has everything you need and so much more!

The home was designed by Denise Stringer who took inspiration from the Almalfi Coast, a sunny coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula.

Now this home (or should we rather say estate!) isn’t something ordinary, the relaxed exteriors bring you way back to Italy’s leisurely slow paced lifestyle of warm weather, great food, good company, and beautiful scenery!

Step inside and you’re guaranteed to be wowed. The entrance is downright impressive and so welcoming! The wrought iron railings are custom made to look like vines and to further mimic a traditional, Italian style home. Talk about clever details!

In the living room, the high ceilings and open-to-below feature make the space airy and full of light. Another great staple of good architecture in hot weather, the higher ceilings the better and the cooler your home will be. Etched granite floors and carved stone columns tie the whole look together making it look impressive and built-to-last.

Throughout the whole home, you will notice that most is designed using earthy, natural tones. No fuchsia eye-popping hues in this home! The designer did an amazing job mimicking a Italian country style home that looks like the perfect place to raise a big family. Almost all of the walls have a faux stucco finish, which makes the walls look a little rustic and rugged, a staple element in Tuscan homes.

The first floor bedroom calls for a magical design moment – romantic country chic furniture mixed in with rustic Mediterranean walls and flooring. This ingenious design gets the best of both worlds and really makes an artfully tailored guest room.

The culture and style of living in the Mediterranean calls for a lot of dining alfresco, and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. Designer Denise Stringer made sure to make this point by arranging a lot of outdoor spaces for lounging, relaxing, eating, get togethers, and simply enjoying the fabulous Southern Carolina surroundings!

This is without a doubt a hot property! What makes it even better is the little touches that bring it from bland to a stunner! Simple projects such as luxury landscaping which is super important to homeowners or buyers, a new front door, even adding intricate moldings to windows are some things that really improve your curb appeal.

New York City is known around the world for its high-priced real estate. After all, it is one of the most popular cities in the world, and millions of people are being crammed onto a small island that is only a few square miles. Besides the scarcity of real estate in comparison to the demand, much of the real estate is high in price because it is historic or features unique architectural design.

You will find some of the most expensive homes in the world in New York, and not surprisingly, they are also some of the most spectacular homes you will ever see. We took a look inside one of New York’s most expensive homes: The Woolworth Estate.

About the Home

The Woolworth Estate was built in the late 1890s for Frank Woolworth, the magnate who started the retail chain that is still popular today. The mansion is a staggering 19,500 square feet, and it costs a whopping $90 million (or you can rent it for $150,000 a month). It is located at Glen Cove in Nassau County, New York.

Exterior Features

Woolworth commissioned architect Charles Pierpont Henry Gilbert to build the estate as part of an order for three town homes for his daughters. This was the middle town home.

The Woolworth Estate is an example of Neo-French Renaissance architecture, and it has stunning carvings all along the arches of the wide entry way and the huge windows. It reaches up five stories, ending in a gabled roof with more engraving and sculpting. There is even a stone balcony that extends the full width of the fifth floor.

The entire facade is made of limestone, and it has a classic, Old World feel that is reminiscent of early New York. The home is both historic and sophisticated.

Interior Features

Where The Woolworth Estate really wows is the interior. The mansion has 10 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. There are large formal rooms, a grand entry way, and 14-foot ceilings. There is even a formal dining room that can seat 50 people.

Everything in the mansion is ornate and over-sized. There are massive fireplaces, intricate mill work, sculpted and beamed ceilings, elaborate chandeliers, marble columns, and more. Walking through this home feels more like walking through a fine art museum than a town home. Every square inch features intricate details and the finest materials.

Living the Good Life

You likely don’t have $90 million to buy an expansive estate in one of the most popular cities in the world. (After all, only about 1 percent of the population does.) But you can enjoy a taste of the good life by incorporating some of the features of The Woolworth Estate into your home.

The key to making your home look more luxurious is focusing on the details. Add crown molding to every room and wainscoting and other wall molding to each wall. Choose a ceiling treatment like sculpted pieces or beams. Tile your floors with an upscale material like slate or marble. Change out your light fixtures for something ornate and luxurious, like a chandelier. Of course, putting up a lot of fine art will make any home look more upscale.

Quick Tip: Making a home look historical, classy, and unique takes effort, creativity, and sourcing the right decorative pieces. Search at flea markets, antique shops, and even garage sales to find antique items that will match the decorating look you are aiming for.

If you are looking for something specific to add in your home (but it’s out of state) or thinking of moving old furniture from one home to the next, consider hiring cross country movers to make your transition a smooth one. Just remember, you don’t need to have a huge home to make it look impressive or grand. Simply take inspiration from places you love and try to mimic the look at home.
